How to use the Touch Type Tool in Adobe Illustrator
I took a deeper dive into the Touch Type Tool in Adobe Illustrator and here's what I learned. I recently made a video where I clicked every single tool in Illustrator. And when I got to the touch type tool, I didn't really know what it was for or how it was used and a couple of people let me know in the comments that there was a lot more functionality to it. So I decided to mess around with it a little bit more. I used one of my own fonts and I typed out my name and I just started messing around with things.
So basically, when you have some editable text, you can use the touch type tool to select individual letters and adjust their scale placement and rotation individually. So basically just select your text and then select the touch type tool and hover over the letter that you want to edit. Then you can click and drag and move it around and you'll see the relationship between it and the other letters change. And using this tool, you can actually adjust every single letter and create a really interesting type layout. Clicking and dragging allows you to move the letters up and down and left and right. But when you move it left and right, it adjusts the entire spacing of the line of text that you're on. You can actually use the transform box that's around the individual letters to adjust different things. The bottom right point allows you to adjust the horizontal scale. The top left adjusts the vertical scale. The top right adjusts both of them in proportion. The bottom left allows you to adjust the baseline so that you can move the character anywhere you want on the line of text and the dot at the top adjust the rotation.
So this all allows you to make some really cool text layouts and keep them editable. So you can change a letter if you made a typo or you're just making an example for a client, and you might need to change the text later. This also allows you to grab the entire text layout and change the font all at once.
This is a super cool tool, and I'm really glad that you guys left comments so that we could go back and check it out. It was really cool to be able to make that every tool video and still be able to learn more things even after I posted it.
